NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It was just after 11 a.m. when Perry Pickering was handed over to Bahamian law officials at Lynden Pindling International Airport today. Pickering, who had been on the run for nearly seven years, was recently arrested by U.S. law enforcement in Miami.

Pickering is a suspect in the September 2017 double killings of 8-year-old Eugene Woodside and 23-year-old Dennis Moss. Police say Pickering was on bail and not being ankle-monitored when he fled the country.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings – Police Press Liaison
“He was one of those persons who we wanted for a 2017 murder that occurred almost around the same time in the Chippingham area. And so, in collaboration with those persons who I mentioned earlier, we were able to get him back here to New Providence. And so he will be before the courts in short order.”

Pickering allegedly left New Providence for Bimini before making his way to the United States.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings – Police Press Liaison
“At that time, he was not on EMD (electronic monitoring device) when he left. And so he would have left New Providence. I think he ended up in Bimini before making his way to the United States.”

The youngest alleged victim, 8-year-old Eugene Woodside, was tragically shot and killed while doing his homework. Woodside was struck by a stray bullet that tore through his wooden home in Chippingham, a bullet intended for Dennis Moss, who was running from the hail of gunfire.

I tracked down Woodside’s mother, who found out her son’s alleged killer was caught, but she later declined to comment after becoming too emotional.

As Pickering prepares to face criminal charges, police are sending a strong message to those who try to evade justice.

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings – Police Press Liaison
“Our reach as an organization extends far beyond The Bahamas, far beyond the Caribbean, internationally. And so if you feel that you’re going to not answer to the charges for the crime that you’ve committed, I want you to know that we will get you. It may take a while, but we will get you.”
