EXUMA, BAHAMAS – That Royal Bahamas Defense Force blockade in the southern Bahamas has its hands full already. Officers intercepted a boat carrying 50 illegal migrants this weekend.

Commander of Operations in charge of the blockade Commander William Sturrup says the group included forty eight men, two women, and two children.

They were picked up in waters off of Exuma on Saturday.

This comes as both Prime Minister Philip Davis and Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Dr. Raymond King have reiterated strong commitments to sending 120 troops to Haiti as well as beefing up security in our southern waters in the wake of widespread gang violence in the nations efforts.

Those 50 migrants were taken to Inagua and were handed to immigration officials for processing.
