NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Is it time for a new constitution, or are we better off with a series of referendums? We asked Nassau residents for their position on whether after 50 years it’s time for us to rewrite our country’s constitution entirely.

Nassau residents are chiming in, one day after Dr. Ian Strachan suggested now may be the time to create a new constitution after nearly 50 years as an independent nation.

Dr. Strachan also suggested the new constitution could have the potential to revisit and revise the electoral process.

Roosevelt Rolle tells us he also sees room for changes in the way our leaders are sourced.

This woman supports the idea that after 50 years, we need a new constitution, and says she hopes it would reflect the realities of the country today especially for those below the poverty line.

Kevin Miller says now is the perfect time for a new constitution.

But, not everyone is in favor, as this resident is against the idea of the broad brushstrokes of a new constitution arguing that although referendums take time, it’s important for the sake of democracy that the people have their vote on major, country-altering changes.
