Union Ready To Discuss Corporal Punishment Reform
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The discussion continues on corporal punishment in schools with Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson weighing in on the issue.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The discussion continues on corporal punishment in schools with Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson weighing in on the issue.
Earlier in March a police officer was accused of allegedly beating students at a Bimini Primary School. Wilson says it is clearly outlined in the penal code who is allowed to administer corporal punishment.
Recently, Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin acknowledging the need to explore different ways to administer corporal punishment.
Wilson says the union stands ready to engage in those discussions with the ministry whenever the time is right, however, action is better than talk.
