NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Seventy years is a major milestone for a school in the Fox Hill area.
The occasion was marked in a grand way with a lively motorcade through the streets of New Providence, featuring two very special guests.
Make way, the Blue Waves are coming through!
St. Anne’s School, affectionately known as the “Blue Waves,” celebrated its 70th anniversary with a motorcade on Saturday morning.
Excited students and proud members of St. Anne’s prestigious alumni gathered at the school grounds in Fox Hill, showing off decorated cars, trucks, and buses.
Their route took them through the community, along Bay Street, and back to the school.
Anieka Major Hanna, a member of the school’s steering committee, says the celebration doesn’t end there.

“We will be having a mini after-backyard party, and that consists of games with our alumni versus our current students. They will be playing games such as baseball with our Junior Baseball Championship winners, 2024–2025. We will also have some track and field alumni versus current students, and basketball. Once that is over, we will go into our Battle of the DJs with none other than Dion ‘Da Butcha,’ class of ’86, and DylanTheDJ, class of 2025.”
Attending the festivities were two very special guests: the institution’s first Head Boy, Granville Brown, and first Head Girl, Eugina Pratt Thurston, from the graduating class of 1959.
Both shared heartfelt reflections on the school’s journey over the years.

“I said to the organizers, thank you for remembering us, because it’s the seventieth anniversary. I can’t even explain how I feel, because we started from just about nothing.”

“We used to be in the graveyard, on tombstones. We had our classes in the graveyard, so it’s a far reach with all the big buildings.”
Current Head Boy, Dylan Duvailer, says the celebration is a perfect reflection of St. Anne’s rich history.

“Really small school, really doing something pretty big. It’s dope to be in Blue Wave land right now.”
