NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Bain & Grants Town is not only one of most historic communities in the capital, but its also a key constituency with over 4,000 voters.

Historically, the constituency is a PLP stronghold that was held by several PLP MP’s, including Bradley Roberts from 1982 to 2007, then Bernard Nottage from 2012 to 2017.

There was a break in the PLP’s representation in 2017 when a then 21-year-old Travis Robinson won the seat.

However, in 2021, the PLP’s Wayde Watson came out victorious.

Then, there’s a newcomer to the political field – FNM candidate Jay Phillipe, a former ZNS broadcaster who’s promising to bring change to the community he grew up in.

Moving forward, this year a third party will also be contesting the seat as Coalition of Independents candidate, Antonio Bain, is also in the race.

So, what are the challenges in the community?

Poor infrastructure, crime, low income homes, which are challenges both incumbent Watson and Phillipe have acknowledged, admitting there’s much work to be done.

Wayde Watson – Incumbent, Bain and Grants Town

“We are going to build a modern community center and a modern wellness center…[and] we are going to construct affordable homes right in the center of city of our Bains and Grants Town.”

Jay Phillipe – FNM Candidate, Bain and Grants Town

“The infrastructure in Bains and Grants Town has not changed over the past 30 years…the same streets, the same speed bumps, the same lamp poles, the same areas [have] not changed….”
