NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Friday evening commemorated 250 years of American independence, and the friendship between the U.S. and The Bahamas.

The celebration was hosted at the United States Embassy in Nassau, where a number of guests gathered to experience an event that celebrated the creativity, artistry, and common spirit of both nations.

Beyonce Knowles and Danielle Dorsett were chosen to represent both countries by performing their national anthems.

Knowles performed the Bahamian national anthem, while Dorsett sang the American national anthem.

Although many vocalists believe the anthem has its complexities, Dorsett was prepared.

“It’s always a lot of pressure when you sing in front of people, but I have been doing this for a few years now, so I think I’ve been able to do it very well.”

As Dorsett concluded the musical selection, 4 U.S Marine Corps F-35B Lighting jets out of Marine Corps Air – from Cherry Point, North Carolina, flew in formation in a spectacular flyover of New Providence.

U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas, Herschel Walker highlighed the successes of the relationship between the two countries.

“So let there be no misunderstanding, this evening the friendship between The Bahamas and the United States is not a passing season, [it] does not begin or end with any one administration or any one decision. It is woven into our geography, our history and our blood. It is inseparable and it will endure.”

Immediately following the formal program, the night’s theme ‘American Icons’ was on full display in the lower grounds of the embassy with a grand reception.

The decor featured popular American landmarks, a Junkanoo recreation of American monuments, and of course some U.S. cuisine.

Guests also danced throughout the evening to the music of Shaad Collie & The VIP.

Then, just before 10 p.m., the island was treated to a firework display, where red, white, and blue lit the sky, marking the conclusion of a monumental celebration.
