NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A registered sexual offender with a history of assaults against women and children spanning two decades has been jailed for three years.

Sidney Cooper, 48, was handed the sentence after he was convicted of indecently assaulting a 68-year-old woman on January 25.

The woman was walking in the Coconut Grove area when Cooper propositioned her.
She declined his advance, telling Cooper he was “too black and ugly.”

That’s when he offered the woman money, and once again, she rejected him, saying she wasn’t a prostitute.

Cooper followed the woman into a store on Crooked Island Street, and rubbed up against her as he looked at an item on the shelf.

Cooper admitted the offenses at his trial before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.

He tried to justify his actions by saying that his victim was “dressed like a harlot”, so he treated her like one.

Cooper was placed on the Sexual Offenders Register following his release from prison in 2023.

In 2019, he was sentenced to six years in prison for the indecent assault of an 18-year-old woman in the downtown area.

As he was about to be sentenced, he groped the female prosecutor in front of the magistrate.
