NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history – In 2014, the Gaming Bill passed in the House of Assembly. The bill would lead to the regulation of web shops in The Bahamas which had for years operated illegally.

The bill was tabled in Parliament despite a referendum/opinion poll of the previous year in which the majority of Bahamians voted against their legalisation and regulation.

The bill did not allow for Bahamians to gamble in casinos but did have a provision which allowed the minister responsible for the gaming industry the ability to decide.

And finally in 2016, the Baha Mar Claims Committee announced payout dates for former employees and creditors, and said checks would be ready in less than two weeks.

Then Labour Minister Shane Gibson said despite criticism from the opposition he never doubted the day would come.
