NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In the Christian faith, Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On Friday morning, we visited St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, where, like millions of Christians around the world, we entered the sanctuary in a moment of remembrance.
The biblical story of Good Friday tells of Jesus enduring intense beatings from Roman soldiers, rituals of humiliation, and being spat upon. He wore a crown of thorns on His head, and in the hours leading up to His death, He was forced to carry a cross—the same cross to which He would be nailed on a hill outside of Jerusalem, known as Calvary.
It is believed by Christians around the world that Jesus gave His own life to save humanity. At St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, congregants re-enacted moments from the day now commemorated.
