NEW YORK, U.S.A. – What are the next steps for Jonquel Jones? She’s an unrestricted free agent following what can be described as a disappointing season for her New York Liberty.
The Liberty were beat in round one of the playoffs losing to the Phoenix Mercury 2-1.
That was the culmination of a season that saw lots of injuries for JJ and her teammates.
And Jones didn’t hold back. She thinks the injuries are tied to the increase in games.
“We have to start talking about playing, yea we are playing more games and thats good for the WNBA and thats good for viewership but we also have to talk about making sure we space these games out and giving players and teams and everybody a chance to really regroup and recuperate so that ya know because it was a lot of injuries going around this year it wasn’t just our team,” Jones said.
And as for her individual play, JJ said she felt like this was her worst playoffs ever.
“I feel like these playoffs were probably like my worst playoffs ever in the league so thats kind of a tough pill to swallow right now with me not playing well in my last few games not being my best,” she said.
“But I’m a glass half full kind of full type of person so now I just use that to work in the offseason as a way to come back better, come back stronger.”

Antoan Richardson and the New York Mets’ quest to lock up a playoff berth took a hit on Wednesday night when they fell to the Chicago Cubs.
Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run home run and juan soto hit a solo shot, accounting for all the Mets runs. Besides that though, Cubs pitching silenced the mets bats, giving up only two other hits in total.
Michael Bush and matt shaw hit home runs to help the Cubs get the win.
LuckIly for the Mets, the Cincinnatti Reds lost, allowing the Mets to retain their one-game lead for the final wildcard slot.
There are four games left in the season so it would be in the mets’ best interest to win every one and guarantee themselves a postseason slot.
Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the New York Yankees’ fortunes are looking up.
They got a 8-1 win over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night.
Jazz went 1-4 but that one was a double to the right field gap in the bottom of the third inning to drive in his 80th run of the season, a career high.
Aaron Judge cemented his case for MVP. The big fella hit two home runs and drove in 4 RBI to contribute to the cause.
Trent Grisham hit a home run as well.
With the win, the Yankees are now tied for lead in the AL East Division with the Toronto Blue Jays.
If they can jump the Blue Jays in the standings, they can get to the playoffs outright, skipping the wild card round.
