NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nestled on Shirley Street in New Providence, just before the intersection with Kemp Road, Bahama Art and Handicraft has undoubtedly one of the most vast collections of authentically made Bahamian art and craft on the island.

It’s an 18 year old business handed down from mother to daughter.

Luciana Sicheri-Hall – Owner, Bahama Art & Handicraft

“She took it upon herself to be the first of all-Bahamian, authentically Bahamian gift shop and art museum in The Bahamas.”

It’s a treasure trove of Bahamian made products, from plushies to purses, cutting boards, conch shell bowls to candles and coasters.

Every shelf – a trip to a different destination.

“And we have gathered from as many [islands] we can. Rum Cay, Andros, Long Island, Eleuthera, San Salvador.”

Meanwhile, Bahama Art & Handicraft’s customer list is a mix of Bahamians and tourists.

Also, with almost two decades in business, and an impressive assortment of authentic Bahamian made products, it’s still a struggle to get inventory.

“We’ve purchased from over 850 vendors in the past 18 years. And I would say five, if that, out of 400 we still have currently, we buy from is reliable. It’s hard. Everything his handmade; most people have their own jobs. It’s a hobby for them or second income.”

So, the next time you’re in the market for something Bahamian made, a stop on Shirley Street will definitely get you in the patriotic spirit.
