NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Shadow minister for energy, Dr. Andre Rollins, says the recent blackouts have exposed what he calls the government’s failure to deliver a stable and reliable power supply.

For the past two days, thousands of residents and businesses across New Providence have been impacted by repeated power outages, after a fire damaged equipment at BPL’s Blue Hills Power Station.

Rollins, who spoke to Our News from his constituency of Long Island, made the comments after Prime Minister Philip Davis toured the facility Thursday evening, where he said his administration inherited an aging power system, and asked Bahamians to remain patient as repairs continue.

“I think we have a government that is not truthful…they are engaging in, spin and propaganda and public relations, but they’re prepared to be frank and honest with the Bahamian people to let us know just how bad things are at BPL.”

The opposition MP also questioned the public absence of Energy Minister Jobeth Coleby-Davis during the crisis.

“I’ve been advised she’s enjoying a European Riviera vacation and so she cant appreciate the pain misery, and frustration of the Bahamian people.”

The shadow minister is calling for the “progress” he says the Davis administration promised before being re-elected.

“We are moving backward, this country is going in reverse. It has never been this bad before and it is terrible that we don’t have an administration that is not man or woman to admit to they are failing.”
