Bahamas to Host Camp in Chile Ahead of Uruguay Matchup

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – The road to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup is now clearer for Team Bahamas.

Following the conclusion of the first round of the Americas qualifiers, The Bahamas has advanced to the second round, joining Argentina, Canada, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay in Group F.

All first-round results will carry over into the next stage, with the top three teams in each group, along with the best fourth-place finisher, earning berths to the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.

The Bahamas will open the August qualifying window with a training camp in Santiago, Chile, from August 20 to 24.

During the camp, The Bahamas and Chile will play an exhibition game on August 22, providing both teams with a final tune-up before qualifying resumes.

The team will then travel to Uruguay on August 24 ahead of its second-round opener against the Uruguayans on August 27.

The window concludes back in Nassau, where The Bahamas will host Panama on August 31 in what could prove to be an important early test in the race for a World Cup berth.

Basketball

Some of college basketball’s biggest programs are in Nassau this week, but it’s a young Bahamian who is making the most of the opportunity.

The Baha Mar Hoops Summer League has returned to the Baha Mar Convention, Arts and Entertainment Center, bringing NCAA programs including Arkansas, Louisville, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, and South Carolina to The Bahamas for preseason exhibition play.

For local players, the event has become more than just a showcase. It’s a chance to compete against some of the best college talent in the United States while playing in front of NCAA coaches.

One of the standouts has been Bahamian high school prospect Javez Coleby.

The versatile forward recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Arkansas Razorbacks, then followed it up with eight points against the Louisville Cardinals, continuing to show he can hold his own against Division I competition.

With programs from power conferences playing on Bahamian soil, events like the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League continue to provide local players with valuable exposure while helping The Bahamas strengthen its reputation as a destination for elite college basketball.

2026 CAC Games

Team Bahamas continued its campaign at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, with the nation’s sailors competing across six events in Santo Domingo.

The Bahamian team features Joshua Higgins in the men’s one-person dinghy, Eliza Denning in the women’s one-person dinghy, Joss Knowles in the men’s regional one-person dinghy, Nash Cartwright and Lori Lowe in the regional two-person mixed dinghy, and Mary Jac Nash and Patrick Tomlinson in the two-person mixed dinghy.

Among the early standouts, Higgins was fourth overall with 13 points, while Denning remained in contention in the women’s fleet with 19 points as the regatta progressed.

With multiple races making up the overall standings, the Bahamian sailors have continued to gain valuable experience against some of the region’s top competitors as they look to finish the regatta on a strong note.
