NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A woman accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian has been charged.

40-year-old Maudeline Eugene is accused of running over 52-year-old Eumines Baptiste with a white van as he walked along Damien Way, off Cowpen Road, on July 27.

The incident happened around 7 am and Eugene turned herself into police at around 12:30 pm.

Eugene, who holds a valid work permit, was not required to enter a plea to the charge of vehicular manslaughter when she appeared before acting chief magistrate Ancella Evans.

The matter was adjourned to November 5 for presentation of voluntary bill of indictment papers to fast-track the case to the supreme court.

Eugene was remanded to prison until August 10.

At that time, the magistrate will give a decision on bail.
