Min. Of Health: End Of The Aids Epidemic Is In Sight

Dr. Darville says the country has come far in the fight against HIV and Aids as Bahamas shares in the global goal to end aids by 2030.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Michael Darville says the country has come a long way in the National fight against HIV and Aids as The Bahamas shares in the global goal to end AIDS by 2030.

That’s zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero aids related death.

Director of the National HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases program, Dr. Nikkiah Forbes, adding the country has shown steady progress toward reaching those goals.

She says there has been remarkable progress with a decline in the number of new infections.

In 2021, 73 percent of people living with HIV who know their status, were on treatment.

It’s the highest rate of treatment Dr. Forbes says her team has seen, adding that 81 percent of those on treatment have achieved viral suppression.

As for the global strategy to end Aids, she says it will essentially be a fast track strategy.
