Atlantis Names New Senior VP of Human Resources

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Atlantis Resort has named Tameka Burrows Forbes as the new Senior Vice President of Human Resources, effective October 1, 2022. 

In her new role, Forbes will play a pivotal role in the company’s growth by providing comprehensive strategies for talent recruitment, team member experience, and professional development. She is responsible for the full range of human resources functions, including benefits, compensation, diversity and inclusion, performance management and governing policies. She will also work with the organization to continuously uphold a well-defined company culture that reinforces the company’s shared values.

Forbes succeeds Karen Carey, who retired from her role as Senior Vice President of Human Resources after a 42-year career with the company.

Forbes has held several leadership positions since joining Atlantis in 2009. She was recently Vice President of Talent Management & Acquisition at Atlantis, driving employer of choice initiatives and creating talent pipelines and programs for the resort.

Before that, Vice President of Labor Relations. In 2014, Forbes founded The Leading Women of Atlantis Initiative (LWA), which empowers and supports female team members for professional growth, advancement and executive leadership.

In 2001, Forbes entered the financial services sector as a Senior Compliance Manager for the Bank of The Bahamas International and held leadership and management roles, including Senior Risk Manager and Senior Manager for Business Development, PR and Legal Affairs. During her eight years with the Bank, Forbes earned a certificate from the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists and was awarded Compliance Officer of the Year in 2005 by the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers.

Forbes began her career in the Office of the Attorney General of The Bahamas, serving as Legal Counsel for the Crown on criminal matters and representing the country at regional and international meetings on money laundering and asset forfeiture.

Forbes received her law degree from the University of Buckingham and earned an HR certification from the Society of Human Resources Management. She holds an Associate of Arts Degree in History from the University of The Bahamas and is a proud Kingsway Academy alumna. 

Forbes is the Secretary to the Bahamas International Women’s Forum and has attended leadership programs at Harvard University in Boston and INSEAD in Paris. She resides in The Bahamas with her husband and daughter.
