High Tide Causes Roadblocks on Abaco

ABACO, BAHAMAS – Abaco was the first to feel the brunt of Tropical Storm Nicole head-on as the storm brought flooding, took down trees and power lines.

Reports of flooding from Mount Hope in the north to Marsh Harbour in the south.

The Eastern Shore area for instance that saw king tide waves ramming on shore, a downed pole and tree blocking the road.

And despite efforts to move some of the debris from the road, the water was still too high to pass through.

Shortly before noon, the eye of TS Nicole covered the island where curious Abaconians came out to assess the damage.

But even during the eye, parts of the road remained impassable with knee-high seawater.

But that didn’t stop residents from walking and driving through the floods.

We ran into Ken Hutton who was heading to check his business which he feared was flooded along with another major concern.

As for his home, Hutton says he experienced no damage.

Local Government Chairman Roscoe Thompson says the flooding from the sea was expected.

As the forecast predicts weather conditions will worsen during the second half of the storm, residents say they’re prepared.

However, the devastation from hurricane Dorian three years ago, still having a lasting impact.
