Union at Impasse with BTVI
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Negotiations between the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas, and The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute are currently at an impasse, according to UTEB President Daniel Thompson.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Negotiations between the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas, and The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute are currently at an impasse, according to UTEB President Daniel Thompson.
He says they’ve had about eight sessions so far, and all was well, up until last night.
Thompson notes that BTVI has not been represented by a union in the past, and so writing this first industrial agreement was historic for the institution.
Aside from money, Thompson says there are other outstanding matters.
He adds he is hoping for more fruitful negotiations going forward, and he is confident the industrial agreement will be completed before Christmas.
UTEB, which has an overall membership of 190 faculty members, also represents faculty at the University of The Bahamas.
