Imm. Min. Warns: “Wind up Your Affairs and Leave Immediately”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Immigration Minister Keith Bell issuing a stern warning to anyone living or working illegally in The Bahamas, saying, “Wind up your affairs and leave immediately.”

Bell addressing the issue of immigration in the House of Assembly, Wednesday morning, noting The Bahamas cannot sustain the influx of illegal migrants to the country.

He says fears come along with immigration, including fears over job loss for Bahamians, overpopulation in urban areas, substandard housing, overflows in clinics and schools.

But he adds that although there has been a significant increase in migration from Cuba and Haiti over the past two years, government repatriated the largest number of migrants on record in 2022.

Ninety-eight individuals are expected to face charges of various infractions to immigration laws today. Bell says those individuals come from Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana, Colombia and Cuba; they were arrested in New Providence, Ragged Island, Eleuthera, Bimini, Inagua and Andros.
