NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Agriculture Minister, Clay Sweeting, responding to a Potter’s Cay vendor who claims the ministry is seeking to wrongfully take her stall.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Agriculture & Marine Resources Minister, Clay Sweeting, responding to a Potter’s Cay vendor who claims the ministry is seeking to wrongfully take her stall.
You may recall that a few weeks ago ministry officials and vendors at arawak cay were in a standoff, as agriculture officials attempted to change the locks on one of the stalls.
But Sweeting says neither he or his ministry is in the business of destroying the livelihood of hardworking Bahamians.
Dianne Burrows, of stall 21 “Casa del Mar” said she leases the land from the leasing authority, but she built the building herself back in 1999.
She recently had someone serve as property manager who then rented her building out.
Attorney for the Arawak Cay Association Floyd Watkins, was adamant the ministry is not following the proper legal channels.
However ministry officials say they found that due process was not followed in relation to the ownership of the stall.
Sweeting says the issue is currently being reviewed.
