HAITI – A 51-year-old Haitian-Chilean businessman has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the July 7, 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise at his private residence.

On Friday U.S. Federal Judge José E. Martínez, imposed the sentence on Rodolphe Jaar, for helping Colombian mercenaries get weapons to carry out the killing that also left Moise’s wife injured.

Jaar is the first person to be convicted and sentenced after what us prosecutors say was a broad plot by the conspirators in Haiti and Florida to reap lucrative contracts under a new administration.
