NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The island of Abaco was one of the hardest hit during the passage of monster storm hurricane Dorian. Two and a half years later, the island continues to make strides toward rebuilding.

Member of Parliament for North Abaco Kirk Cornish says while restoration efforts have been a bit slow, the ground work is being done on that northern island. He says since coming into the office, members of the Davis cabinet have been assessing the current state of the island and what it will take to bring complete restoration.

Unfortunately, there are still many living without the basics, including housing.

In December 2020, the Free National Movement announced plans for a $1.8 million community center and hurricane shelter for the island. Cornish gave this update on the development.

And as the summer months approach, the parliamentarian says they are hopeful for a strong tourism rebound.
