NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 34-year-old man is behind bars after he pleaded guilty to having 40 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply.

Police arrested Edrick Newton and Arabella Lightbourne after they found the during a raid on their home in Salina Point, Acklins, on August 23.

Newton pleaded guilty to the charge at his arraignment before Magistrate Raquel Whymms.

He was jailed for 18 months and fined $15,000. If the fine isn’t paid, Newton will spend an extra six months in prison.

Meanwhile, Lightbourne pleaded not guilty. Her bail was set at $9,900, and she returns to court on September 13.
