ABACO, BAHAMAS – A shocking and disturbing incident occurred overnight on the island of Abaco as police discovered an attempted arson within the Abaco hurricane shelter.

While investigations are still underway, we spoke to Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco, John Pinder, who described the incident as “deeply, deeply, concerning.”

Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco, John Pinder, also addressed concerns regarding the delayed shelter project, which was originally expected to be completed by June 1.

Despite assurances from Prime Minister Philip Davis and the Ministry of Disaster Risk Management, the project has seen significant delays and cost overruns, now ballooning from an initial budget of $1.4 million to $4 million.

John Pinder II – MP, Central and South Abaco
“Abaco is always prepared, but now more than ever, residents are in a heightened state of preparedness.”

Pinder reassured the public that despite the delays, the community is actively preparing for the hurricane season.
