NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The NCAA indoor season continues for Bahamian student athletes, headlined by several school record setting performances on the track.

Wanya McCoy of the florida gators was one of his team’s top performers at the corky classic, hosted by Texas Tech University.

McCoy won the first-round heat, semifinal, and the final of the men’s 60m, but it was his semifinal time of 6.53 seconds that left the lasting mark on the Gator record books. 

His new personal best, placed him third all time on Florida’s program all-time leaderboard.

He was also a member of the 4x400m team that ran 3:02.80 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in program history.

Also at the meet – Antoine Andrews ran won his semifinal heat of the 60m hurdles in 7.52 seconds.

The time stands as a new Texas Tech school record and a top five NCAA time this season.

Shatalya Dorsett, made her debut with the Georgia southern eagles at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.

The sophomore won the 60m in 7.44 seconds, the fourth best indoor time in program history. 

She finished second in the 200m in 24.16 seconds, also fourth all-time in the Eagles record books. 

Soccer

The Bahamas Football Association recently announced the selection of Bahamian match officials to FIFA’s 2025 International Referee Lists. 

Evens Julmis headlines the group of officials, accepted as a referee.

Prince Albury has also been accepted as an assistant referee. 

Krystal Monique Evans was conditionally accepted as an assistant referee while Annisa Albury was conditionally accepted as a beach soccer referee.

Officials with “conditionally accepted” status will need to meet additional requirements outlined by fifa in order to fully qualify for their roles on the international lists. 

BFA executives said the recognition highlights the growing presence of Bahamian referees in international football.

Track and Field

Tim Munnings continues to set new milestones in Masters Athletics and his stacked resume now includes – world record holder.

At the DTSP  Wolfpack meet over the weekend, Munnings unofficially set a new world record in the master’s 55-59 400m with a time of 52.04 seconds.

The former Olympian made history last year for the bahamas at the 2024 World Masters Track and Field Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

He won gold in the men’s 55-plus 400m in 53.05 secs and bronze in the 200m in 23.83 seconds.

Meanwhile, several pros also made their indoor debuts over the weekend, competing alongside some of our top collegiate athletes.

At the aformentioned Corky Classic in Lubbock Texas, the 60mh hurdles was a showdown between world record holder Devynne Charlton and 100m hurdles Olympic champion Masai Russell.

Charlton finished second in 7.93 seconds behind russell’s 7.89 seconds.

Another Olympic sprint hurdler, denisha cartwright, competed at her alma mater – Minnesota State Mankato in the Bearson/Gathje Classic.

She took first in the 60m in 7.24 seconds.

At the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, triple jumper Antoine Smith took first place in his signature event with a leap of 15.48m
