ST. LUCIA – The 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference Heads of Government of CARICOM kicked off at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian on Sunday evening.

The ballroom was packed with heads of governments and officials from across the region.

Prime Minister Philip Davis and Foreign Affairs Minister, Fred Mitchell, led a Bahamian delegation that included foreign affairs officials, senators, and a youth ambassador.

The ceremony was marked with expressions of St. Lucian culture that included song and dance.

However, officials will get down to business this week as deliberations for the next two days are expected to center around the region’s food security, security, expansion opportunities, and global influences.

CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett, urged regional leaders to seize the current period of global volatility as an opportunity for decisive action.

Bringing the keynote address from St. Lucia was young scholar Rahym Augustin-Joseph, who challenged regional leaders to move the message forward.

Then for incoming CARICOM Chairman and St. Lucian President, Philip J. Pierre, it’s about moving beyond boardroom conversations and ceremonies.
