NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Burnt walls, charred flooring and roofing, scattered debris, and damaged furniture tell the tale of a devastating blaze that recently struck Christ the King Anglican Church.

Even in the main sanctuary, where the fire itself did not spread, evidence of the incident remains. A layer of ash blankets the church floor, and the smell of smoke lingers, marking the areas untouched by flames but not by impact.

Archdeacon Dwight Rolle – Rector, Christ the King Anglican Church:
“This would be the sacristy. It’s where the priests vest. Then you have the area where the servers ready themselves for worship, and then we would have what was the old church office.”

The cleanup has already begun. Workers seen on-site are not contractors, they’re members of the congregation and volunteers from the wider community. Some even gave up their Whit Monday holiday to lend a hand, reflecting a deep commitment to their church and its future.

Archdeacon Rolle praised the effort, saying it’s a powerful testament to the devotion of his congregation. While acknowledging that the fire will cost thousands in repairs, he remains optimistic.

Archdeacon Dwight Rolle – Rector, Christ the King Anglican Church:
“We just want the prayers of the community. Those who can assist by way of helping us to restore this area, of course, we would be grateful. We also… this being our 60th year of dedication, this was a part of our renovation plans, and so when you look at it, maybe it speeds up the process.”

As the church navigates recovery, the spirit of unity and resilience among its members shines brightly, a reminder that even in loss, faith and community endure.
