NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The prosecution, Wednesday, dropped its corruption case against Hiram Cox, a senior official at the Department of Inland Revenue.

The case was withdrawn when Cox appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville.

The corruption by a public officer charge stems from claims that Cox in 2020 solicited a $10,000 bribe from Preston Rolle.

According to Rolle’s testimony, his company Amani Hair had been cited for tax evasion.

Rolle testified that he secretly recorded Cox asking for the bribe during a meeting they had on August 25, 2020.

In the recording, a man identified by Rolle as Cox said, “I’m proposing that I could reduce the fixed penalties immediately. I could take off $100,000 immediately, but that will cost you 10 grand.”

In March 2022, the court ruled Cox had a case to answer.

Since the complaint was withdrawn after Cox was called upon to present a defence, he was acquitted.
