LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS – What began as a day of relaxation and family bonding took a heart-wrenching turn when a father of three vanished without a trace during an afternoon swim.

The man, who was enjoying a sunny outing with his loved ones, never resurfaced.

On Saturday, 50-year-old Douglas McHardy and his family visited the Dean’s Blue Hole. One of the most popular and scenic sites in long island.

They decided to go swimming after his stepmom’s funeral.

His daughter, Nakita Headley, says it’s a place her family frequents. This photo was taken of her dad heading into the water just moments before he disappeared.

McHardy was a heavy machine operator by profession and seasoned diver and fisherman.

Nakita Headley says she briefly left the beach as her dad was taking a swim. When she got back he was nowhere to be seen.

Nikita describes her father as a fun-loving man dedicated to his family.

Though the family remains hopeful, they’ve come to accept the heartbreaking reality of never seeing him again.

The family says they’re grateful to everyone who has helped search so far and they’re planning to return to the site today in hopes of finding him.
