NASSAU, BAHAMAS – From the outside, you probably do not realise many of your fathers, husbands and older male friends may be ticking time bombs. 

Far too many Bahamian men over 40 are showing up to physicians with illnesses – that could have been treated and unfortunately, sometimes in the final stages. 

And when they do come it is too late. 

Annual checks for men over 40 could literally mean life or death. 

Silent killers like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancer are all detectable in an annual.  It’s what physicians like Dr. Vashti Darling call health maintenance and screenings. 

And I know what you’re thinking.  Why do I need to see a doctor, if I’m not feeling sick?

What you are feeling on the outside is not necessarily what’s happening inside your body.
