NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – Creative engagement – that’s what stood out at Claridge Primary.

First grade teacher, Darisha Johnson had the bright idea of inviting persons from throughout the community to read to her students every two weeks and this week, the Our News team got in on the fun.

“With someone reading to you, you would have that earnest in you to learn how to read for yourself “ – Darisha Johnson

I (Tate Bethel) was the final guest reader for the week, the team alerted me to how much the students enjoyed the previous readers.

Apparently, I had big shoes to fill, now it’s my turn to read the Grouchy Ladybug.

“HEY YOU! WANT TO FIGHT?! But it got no answer! What did it do? It flew away! Oh wow look at this. Look at this fin. This looks real! At quarter to 6, the grouch the lady bug said to the whale’s tail. And the whale said SHWAPAHH!” – Tate Bethel

But then, our grand time was interrupted,

Unbeknownst to me, the school arranged a gladiator-style water balloon fight where the students are armed and the teachers are not.

I was chosen to participate.

Yall can’t burst him, he is our guest. Y’all gonna burst up the guest before he even read for you. Yeaaaahhhhhh!!!” – 1st Grade Teacher

It’s apparent that I didn’t just come to Claridge Primary just to read a simple book, I came to be the victim of a water balloon fight! Now who’s gonna splash me?! Meeee!!!!
