NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Year after year, the FNM has held onto the St. Anne’s constituency – so does it mean its a safe seat, or are the tables beginning to turn?

Political newcomer Adrian White won the seat in 2021, and this year he’ll be taking on the Progressive Liberal Party’s Keno Wong and the Coalition of Independents’ Graham Weatherford.

Wong brings high energy to the campaign, presenting himself as a family-oriented man who has been open about his past.

Admitting to serving time in prison, Wong says his experiences have helped him connect with people on a deeper level, making him an advocate for second chances.

Keno Wong – PLP Candidate, St. Anne’s

“Emmanuel sentenced me to 12 months imprisonment, and it’s amazing I remember her, and today I look up to her as a former circuit court judge, and of course, they are constituents in St. Annes. But it taught me a life lesson that you can make a mistake or you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and it does not define who you are.”

When it comes to Free National Movement candidate Adrian White, he has the backing of former FNM Deputy Leader Brent Symonette, who passed the baton following his retirement from frontline politics in 2021.

With a background in law, White quickly gained national attention for his energetic style.

To add, as one of the few FNM opposition members, he often spoke out on issues he said impacted the rights of Bahamians.

He was even captured on camera in an iconic image, being dragged out of the House of Assembly while holding Bahamian flag, moments after FNM Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright threw the mace out the HOA’s window in December 2024.

However, this year’s race has proven more competitive, with White taking multiple jabs at Wong during the campaign.

Adrian White – FNM Candidate, St. Anne’s

“The only candidate from a major political party in St. Anne’s that has not resided in her majesty’s prison? That’s right, boy, ain’t no time to play, boy, because it’s getting hot, hot, hot!”

Then there’s a third man in the race, COI candidate Graham Weatherford, a well-known local advocate and businessman pledging to focus on economic relief for residents and land reform.

He criticized both major parties for failing to protect the interests of Bahamians in the eastern district, specifically highlighting issues of property taxes and local infrastructure.

With election day quickly approaching, the question now remains, will St. Anne’s stay an FNM stronghold, or could this year’s race make history.
