Alongside the obvious warning not to drink and drive, Automall’s Service Manager and Technical Trainer, John Lenord Henderson, shared a key reminder: road safety starts long before you pull out of the driveway.

“It begins with maintenance, and a lot of people overlook that part of it.”

A well-maintained vehicle improves your chances of staying safe on the road.

Tires Matter More Than You Think

Among the most common issues Henderson sees are unsafe tires.

“It’s very important to have the tires at the correct pressures, and you’ll need someone professional to check the condition. I’ve seen vehicles driving around in The Bahamas with no tread.”

Underinflated tires, worn tread, or unnoticed damage can significantly increase the risk of accidents.

Don’t Neglect the Suspension, Steering and Brakes

Henderson also stressed the importance of keeping your vehicle’s suspension, steering and brakes in good condition. These systems are crucial for safe driving and should be checked regularly.

The Most Basic Safety Tip Often Ignored

Henderson’s final reminder was one that could save lives.

“Seatbelts, that’s one of the main things I see not being used in The Bahamas, and that can save your life one hundred percent. Statistics show that front-seat drivers and passengers can reduce deaths and serious injury by up to fifty percent when wearing a seatbelt.”
