Trinidad PM Says CARICOM Has ‘Lost Its Way’

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO – A war of words inside CARICOM tonight after Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the regional bloc “is not a reliable partner at this time and accused CARICOM of supporting what she called “The Maduro Narco-government.”

She also defended the U.S. right to impose new visa restrictions, saying every state must accept the consequences of its foreign policy.

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne fired back, saying Trinidad has benefited the most from CARICOM, including more than $1.1 billion in regional exports last year and rejected claims its leaders “bad-mouthed” the United States.

Antigua says the community remains stronger when it acts together.
