GRAND BAHAMA, THE BAHAMAS – Residents are being urged to brace for a sharp change in the weather as a blast of cold weather conditions move into The Bahamas this weekend.

The system is expected to bring some of the coldest temperatures seen in years, along with strong winds.

Meteorologists say the shift is being driven by a strengthening weather system off the Southeastern United States, which will push a cold front across the islands, impacting both land and marine areas.

In Grand Bahama, many residents say they’ve already been enjoying the cooler temperatures this week, and are looking forward to what’s ahead.

Meteorologists say temperatures could drop even further this weekend, with some forecasts showing Grand Bahama and parts of the Northern Bahamas dipping into the 30s overnight.

Resident Glen Forbes says while the cooler weather is welcomed news, his concern is for the elderly and the homeless who may be more vulnerable to the cold.

However, while conditions may feel cold for Bahamians, visitors from the United States say the temperatures here are still better compared to what they’re experiencing back home.
