NEW YORK , UNITED STATES – Palestinians and more than 80 U.N. member states condemned Israel’s move to tighten control over the occupied West Bank and ease land purchases by settlers.

Reuters reports Palestinian U.N. Ambassador Riyad Mansour called the step a “De-facto annexation”. The ambassador said it expands an unlawful presence and violates international law.

Israel said the measures promote transparency, as its coalition pushes to formally annex the territory.
