Edgecombe Explodes, Sixers Steal Game Two in Boston

UNITED STATES – VJ Edgecombe delivered a historic playoff performance, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 111–97 road win over the Boston Celtics, evening their first-round series at one game apiece.

He finished with 30 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, and six made three-pointers, shooting 12-of-20 from the field, including a dominant 16-point second quarter.

Edgecombe became the youngest player in NBA history to record a 30-point, 10-rebound playoff game at 20 years and 265 days old, breaking a record previously held by Magic Johnson.

He also became the first rookie ever to post at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five or more made three-pointers in a playoff game.

The series now heads to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Thursday night.

NBA

In other NBA action, Deandre Ayton played a role in the Los Angeles Lakers protecting home court in the playoffs.

The Lakers took a commanding 2–0 lead in their first-round series with a 101–94 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 2 at Crypto.com Arena.

Ayton recorded six points, five rebounds, one assist, and one block in 26 minutes.

That series now shifts to Houston for Game 3 on Friday.

It was just the game Jazz Chisholm Jr. needed to break out of his slump.

The New York Yankees opened their series against the Boston Red Sox with a 4–0 win on the road at Fenway Park, and Chisholm finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.

He delivered a single in the first inning and added a bunt single in the sixth.

The early season struggles have been well documented. Chisholm had gone 0-for-8 over his last three games before the Yankees sat him out of several contests.

He had been hitting just .186, with a .255 on-base percentage and a .256 slugging percentage through his first dozen games, with no home runs and only three RBIs.
