Lincoln Bain: From Political Snub to Party Leader

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – From policeman to politician, Coalition of Independents Leader, Lincoln Bain, has spent more than two decades in the public eye, making a name for himself and cementing his position in frontline politics.

Born on October 26th 1976, Lincoln Bain has become known to supporters as a visionary leader, and a passionate advocate who pursued business and law degrees in the 1990’s before joining the Royal Bahamas Police Force in 1995.

He would later resign in 2005.

Then, it was during the 2000’s that he first got a taste of public life, starting with a stint as a member of the gospel group ‘Vision, where their hit “Brand New World” was penned by the late Dr. Myles Munroe.

Bain went on to host several shows, including the wildly popular Controversy TV.

The show and Bain would make international headlines after two women claiming to be the nannies of the late Anna Nicole Smith made an appearance.

It also managed to get the attention of then Fox News journalist Rita Cosby, who penned a 2007 book which caused significant controversy due to salacious, unproven claims about Smith’s life, resulting in a $60 million libel lawsuit against Crosby.

By the 2010’s, Bain had set his sights on politics, where in November 2016, he was the center of a major internal conflict within the Free National Movement after not being nominated as the party’s candidate for the Pinewood constituency.

Bain would later claim his fallout with the party was linked to a secret audio recording he made of then-senator Lanisha Rolle.

The now former FNM eventually left the party to run for the Democratic National Alliance in the May 2017 election, a seat he didn’t win.

Three years later, the Coalition of Independents was formed, and under Bain’s leadership, the party ran candidates in the September 2021 General Election.

Since then Bain, who is also known for his activism, has led his party during major protests, many of them outside the House of Assembly.

Additionally, there have also been legal battles along the way, as just last week it was revealed the COI leader is seeking to have court documents sealed in a long-running civil matter.

The case has dragged on for years and eventually ballooned into a $90,000 judgment against him.

However, through it all Bain has remained a prominent figure on Facebook and Tik Tok, harnessing social media to reach voters, and challenge both the FNM and the governing PLP.
