Free National Movement Slams Govt. Over Fraud Cases, Voter Registry Issues

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – There was dancing, cheering, and pom-pom waving as several Free National Movement candidates who are vying for seats in the May 12 general election took the stage at Thursday night’s mass rally.

The message focused on what the party calls saving the country’s sovereignty, with candidate after candidate calling for the protection of national documents like NIB cards, voter cards, and passports.

Taking a swipe at the Davis administration and growing concerns about a recent uptick in fraud arrests was FNM member and rally moderator Carlyle Bethel, who threw fake Bahamian passports out to party supporters.

Bethel wasn’t the only one to knock the Davis administration over the issue.

Former National Security Minister under the last FNM administration, turned Mt. Moriah candidate, Marvin Dames also weighed in.

Then there was the issue of errors on the voter register, which was released earlier this week.

The Parliamentary Registration Department downplayed the issue, saying they were “typographical errors” and a “system glitch.”

Party chairman and Bamboo Town candidate Dr. Duane Sands, and Elizabeth candidate Heather Hunt, thought it could impact the credibility of the approaching general election.

Hunt told the crowd that she’s made some interesting discoveries while canvassing the constituency, including that people charged with voter fraud are still listed on the recently released voters’ register.

Wrapping up the speeches last night was FNM leader Michael Pintard, who accused the Davis administration of betraying residents and called on them to vote out the PLP.

The party is expected to continue to ramp up its campaign over the next two weeks, with a rally stop slated for Long Island on Wednesday.
