UNITED STATES – Bahamian high school athletes delivered a historic showing at the Penn Relays with gold medals, records and podium finishes.

The St. Augustine’s College (big red machine), made history in the high school girls 4×100 meters international final. 8 of the 9 teams in the final were Jamaican schools, but all finished behind the SAC quartet of Taree Forbes, Alexis Roberts, Logan Stubbs and Darvinique Dean.

They stopped the clock in a record-breaking 45.90 seconds to become the first school from The Bahamas to win the event, and edge the previous record of 46.02 set by St. Jago of Jamaica.

CARIFTA gold medalist Carlin Archer of St. Augustine’s College continued his outstanding season by winning gold in the high school boys long jump.

Archer produced the winning mark of 7.47 meters on his third attempt to secure the title.

Meanwhile, Ethan North of Queen’s College claimed bronze in the high school boys javelin.

North delivered his best throw of 65.87 meters on his sixth and final attempt.

Students from Bishop Michael Eldon and Tabernacle also competed at the meet.

Jones Looks Ahead to Upcoming Season

For the Liberty to return to the top spot in the WNBA, Jonquel Jones knows it will take the sacrifice from the franchise’s big three – Jones, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart.

Additionally, this year is the first of the Chris DeMarco era in New York, where the former Golden State Warriors assistant and Bahamas Senior Men’s National Team head coach makes his debut season.

New York lost its first preseason game to the Indiana Fever, but will return for game two against the Connecticut sun on May 3.

The regular season opens against the Sun on May 8 at the Barclays Center.

Several Bahamian Student Athletes Set New PR’s

It was a busy weekend for Bahamian students all across several levels of NCAA track and field.

Zion Campbell produced one of the best sprinting displays in University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium history at the Gary Wilson Invitational.

After a windy 100 meters preliminary round where he clocked 10.08, Campbell returned just hours later to stop the clock in 10.00 seconds in the final.

A +4.4 wind reading will keep the mark off the official all-time lists, but a series of impressive runs nonetheless.

Campbell later added a lifetime best 20.49 in the 200 meters with a legal +1.6 wind, moving him to number four all-time at Minnesota, and making him the fourth gopher to break 20.50 since 2023.

Meanwhile, Kenny Moxey, junior of the Lake Mary Marauders, delivered a history-making performance in the decathlon at the Drake Relays.

Moxey finished top 3 in 5 events and scored 7086 points to finish third overall.

He broke a school record that had stood since 1998 and is now ranked 6th in the nation.

At the Penn Relays, Tahj Brown ran a personal best for the second week in a row – 13.81 seconds to win his heat in the 110-meter hurdles, and secure a place in the final.

Brown was set to be one of only two freshmen in the final, but did not compete.

Tarajh Hudson earned Southland Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors when he won the discus at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a throw of 53.34 meters.

He currently leads the Southland Conference with a season-best throw of 55.16 meters.
