NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Dignitaries, members of Parliament and government officials filled the halls of Atlantis Ballroom for the Opening of Parliament.

Among those in attendance was former prime minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, who weighed in on some of the country’s pressing issues dominating headlines.

Top of the list for Minnis is the ongoing investigation into an alleged multimillion-dollar transnational drug trafficking scheme.

The case continues to gain international attention following the arrest of Bahamian, Eric Gardiner, who was one of eleven survivors of a plane crash in water off Florida, on Election Day.

Additionally, according to a criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, a Bahamian politician was allegedly heard on a wiretap discussing a possible drug deal with an undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent inside Parliament in 2024.

Chairman of the Free National Movement Dr. Duane Sands has now called for a commission of inquiry, and now Dr. Minnis shares with us his thoughts on the matter, saying that while the matter remains under investigation, the allegations have already damaged the country’s image.
