SWEETINGS CAY, BAHAMAS – While some resident of Sweetings Cay have returned to the cay post-Dorian, many still saying they have nowhere to call home.
SWEETINGS CAY, BAHAMAS – Residents in Sweetings Cay are still coping three years after Dorian ravaged their small community. While some residents have returned to the cay, many still saying they have nowhere to call home.
In 2019, Gladstone Russell and 36 others rode out Hurricane Dorian as it swept through the eastern Cay, leaving behind a community in shambles.
The former chief councillor for Sweetings Cay says he had made it a practice that during storms, he would always remain on the ground to ensure the safety of those on the cay.
But, he says Dorian was by far the worst they’ve experienced.
Today, he says there are about 65 to 70 people who live on Sweetings Cay. And, while things are better than they were immediately after Dorian, he wants to see the recovery process speed up.
