NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After nearly three decades in the Junkanoo world, and a two-year hiatus The Redland Soldiers are back and they say they’re ready for war.

The 100-member strong ‘B’ group is no stranger to that competitive category, and while they believe Junkanoo is serious business, the leader of the community-based group, Philip Carey, says they’re all about having fun.

And, while the Redland Soldiers have made a name for themselves on Bay, the story of their evolution began with humble beginnings.

We went into the community where it all started.

They say they’re more than just a group, they’re a family.

And, this Boxing Day as the soldiers make their big return to Bay, backline leader, Jamal Rose says they’re hoping to bring the heat with their spin on this traditional theme.

This New Year’s day the Redland Soldiers will celebrate 30 years as a Junkanoo group, but before they can get to Bay, there are quite a number of steps they must take in preparation.

And, when it comes to the final showdown the underdogs, say the other groups better bring their A-game.
