St. John’s College Alumni Donate $160K to School

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Some St. John’s College alumni are coming back to their alma mater after over 50 years to give back in a big way. One member of that class is Prime Minister Philip Davis.

St. John’s College class of 1968 is giving back. The class donated $160,000 to their former school to help with solar energy for the school and scholarships for students.

Solar energy for the Stapleton Gardens campus is expected to save the school around $30,000 a year in electricity bills.

The Bahamas has championed the fight against climate change and according to the prime minister, a part of that is educating students.

However, looking back on his time at St. John’s, PM Davis said it wasn’t easy as he had to work and attend school.

School Principal Junann Lewis says the school is grateful for the continued support from the class of 1968.

She said during the pandemic the school received a lot of donations from alumni.

She said the solarization project will begin once the strategy is laid out.
