More Than 50 Years of Delivering Hot Patties

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On Monday morning, delivery vans lined up outside the bakery, as boxes were moved through a side entrance and customers filled the storefront area.

The busy morning marked the bakery’s first major school-order run since the fire, which destroyed the business’s head office and warehouse just one week ago.

Despite the damage, the bakery reopened its doors on August 24th, just one day after the fire.

Now, with schools back in session, the business is working to keep up with demand while rebuilding after the devastating loss.

“We had some concerns. Some customers were like I wonder if we’re going to be able to get our orders.”

She admits there were some delays, but says they did not disrupt the bakery’s more than 50-year record of school distribution.

The bakery’s pastries have long been a staple of the local education system, with its hot patties being a popular favorite among students.

Serving the majority of schools in the capital, Mosely-Culmer says the hot patties have become something students look forward to, making them an important part of the school day.

“Our schools have always been our priority to make sure that the children of The Bahamas have lunch, affordable lunch. Because a lot of them can not afford over ten dollars to buy lunch, so a patty and a drink is under ten dollars.”
