Gaming Board Former Employee Wins Dismissal Suit
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former secretary to the Gaming Board who was fired in 2017 has won a wrongful dismissal suit.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former secretary to the Gaming Board who was fired in 2017 has won a wrongful dismissal suit.
Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder has ruled that Verdant Scott was wrongfully dismissed and not adequately compensated.
Winder has ordered the Gaming Board to pay $42,403.75 in vacation leave.
Scott was placed on administrative leave with pay on September 13, 2017. He was dismissed on November 29 of the same year.
Scott’s lawyer Akire Nicolls argued that the Gaming Board did not properly compensate him for the vacation that he had accumulated.
Winder found that the Gaming Board’s failure to properly compensate Scott constituted wrongful dismissal, according to the Employment Act.
Winder also ordered the Gaming Board to pay Scott’s legal costs.
