NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 42-year-old American tourist accused of killing her passenger in an ATV accident has been granted $18,000 cash bail.

Carol Garcia, of Miami, Florida, faced a charge of vehicular manslaughter when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Garcia drove the ATV in a manner dangerous to the public at Arawak Cay on February 18 and caused the death of Wilber Jorge.

Garcia and the deceased were both visiting the country on a cruise when the accident occurred.

Garcia, who had bruises on her forehead and nose, was not required to enter a plea to the charge. She next returns to court on May 24 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment that will send the case to the Supreme Court for trial.

The magistrate allowed Garcia to speak to her relatives before she was taken to a cell to wait for her bail to be signed.

She broke down in tears as they comforted her.
