Three Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prosecutors filing charges against three people accused of separate incidents of vehicular manslaughter. 

Quinton Johnson, 31, and Ashanti Johnson, 24, faced charges in connection with traffic fatalities that took place within hours of each other on the Queen’s Highway in Eleuthera last December. Meanwhile, Michael Fox, 51, is being held responsible for the death of a woman on East Street on January 20, 2023.

Prosecutors say Quinton Johnson was overtaking another vehicle on the Queen’s Highway on December 11, 2022, when Jamal McNair fell off the back of the truck and died on impact. The incident happened around 11:50am.

Hours earlier, around 3am,  Ashanti Johnson, who allegedly didn’t have a valid driver’s license of third-party insurance, crashed into a wall and tree, causing the death of her passenger Kendrick Moss.

Fox is accused of causing the death of Opal Campbell-Hamilton at East Street when he collided with another car around 4:45 am on January 20, 2023.

He is also accused of failing to  have his vehicle insured against third-party risk.

The accused were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

They were all granted $9,000 bail and will return to court on August 23 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
