NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The national security minister giving a glimpse into his budget communication. Amid what seems to be high criminal activity, the minister says the plan is to invest in prevention.

Ahead of his budget communication, National Security Minister Wayne Munroe says greater focus will be placed on prevention instead of detection.

This new way of addressing criminal activity comes as the country records high homicide numbers.

Munroe says the plan is to construct new community centers soon.

The announcement comes weeks after the commissioner of police received another batch of new vehicles to beef up saturation patrols around New Providence.

The investment in prevention, according to Munroe is a mandate from the prime minister.

But, Munroe says the plan is to also extend it to a Family Island.

His comments came on the sidelines of a groundbreaking ceremony for a community center in Nassau Village.

He explains that these centers are significant.
